Elizabeth Salter Evans

Elizabeth Salter Evans was born in 1860. She graduated from South Kentucky College and married Samuel Thompson Evans. The couple had three children: Gertrude (1880), Hugh B. (1882), and William Lynn (1884). Samuel Thompson Evans, died at The Hill on September 11, 1886, at age thirty-three. Since tuberculosis was rampant in Christian County during this era, it is conjectured that Samuel Evans died of the disease. He was the son of the Reverend Henry J. Evans, formerly of Virginia and once stationed in Hopkinsville. His mother was the daughter of Captain J. Cluke of Montgomery County, Kentucky. Elizabeth Salter Evans died April 8, 1934, at age seventy-two.
